Some say that the best deal on cigars and tequila, for both quality and price, is found in Costa Maya! Many stores also sell Mexican wares, such as tequila and boots. There are many shops inside the cruise terminal, with craft markets on one side and duty-free shops on the left. Some cruise ship passengers will enjoy their entire port stop at this terminal! It's a destination in itself! The tour dispatch area is located here, and if you didn't get a shore excursion booked before docking, there's also a late-minute tour desk so you can see what's available. I feel like we got scammed. The cruise terminal is the first place you'll go upon docking, which is full of amenities and entertainment. ![]() ![]() I would NOT recommend using the Toucan Tours or at this point shoreexcursioneer. They said after a few days they were still working with the vendor. I refused and called back to shoreexcursioneer. They couldn't seem to figure that, and again asked me for my banking info. I told them in no way was I giving them my banking info, so I gave them the Paypal info. I paid at the check in with a credit card. I got a text from them asking for my Paypal or my bank account information for a partial refund. I called shoreexcursioneer (who we booked through), and was advised the vendor would get ahold of me. This was even after I confirmed the package at check in. They told us we only got pop and a "snack" which was just nachos and cheese. We were sat at a table where a ton of people selling stuff on the beach kept coming up to us even though we made it clear we wanted to be left alone. We were supposed to have lunch and two adult drinks per person. When we got to the final stop they sent us to the beach break. We made several stops.but all of them included buying things from people they knew. My sons chain kept falling off several times, so the guide finally just gave him her ATV. My friends ATV completely broke and he had to leave the group to go get a whole other ATV. They gave us wrist bands, a 2 min instruction on how to use the ATVS and we started off. Then paid the balance of $300 at their desk with my credit card. After we arrived at the center, they had to look up my information. We were scheduled for an ATV/Beach break tour with lunch and adult beverages. Do not go if you have any problems like hip, knee or back. ![]() We are lovers of history and have been to sites such as Chichen Itza and Machu Picchu and we thought these ruins were worth the trip. They gave us water and stopped to buy us fresh pineapple. Our guide Carlos gave us a running history of the area as well as many humorous tales on our journey there which passed the time on the trip. The tour conductor was not very explicit with directions or time but 8EST AM one should be at the tour pick up. Our cell phones showed we walked just under 4 miles from ship to the ruins and back to our room. There are two large uncovered pyramids as well as multiple other ruins still unexcavated. There is additional walking involved to view the various ruins. The distance to the ruins is 1 hr drive Over countless speed bumps through a very monotonous jungle/swamp area with little civilization between the port and the ruin area. ![]() Toucan tours did pick us up and take us to their office area. Once there, there is an extremely confusing maze of shops where signs send you walking through at least a quarter of a mile before you get to the tour bus pick up area. Be aware that it is a very long pier to the port entrance.
